1. ทั้ง above และ over ใช้ในความหมายว่า "higher than" เช่น
The water came up above / over our knees.
Can you see the helicopter above / over the palace?
แต่เมื่อหมายถึง "covering" หรือ "crossing" เรามักจะใช้ over
The plane was flying over Denmark.
Electricity cables stretch over the fields.
There's thick cloud over the South of England.

2. กับตัวเลขและการกล่าวถึงปริมาณ หรือมาตราวัด ปกติจะใช้ over (=more than) เช่น
There were over 100,000 people at the pop festival.
You have to be over 18 to see this film.
แต่เมื่อคิดถึงการวัดในแนวดิ่ง(บน ล่าง) ให้ใช้ above เช่น
The temperature is three degrees above zero.
She's well above average (=the middle of the scale) in intelligence.
ความสูงของพื้นโลกจะใช้หน่วยเป็น above sea-level ลองเปรียบเทียบการใช้ over และ above ในตัวอย่างต่อไปนี้
The summit of Everest is over 800 metres above sea-level.
(=more than 800 metres higher than sea-level)
3. สำหรับในหนังสือ รายงานทางวิชาการ หรือ วิทยานิพนธ์ คำว่า "see over" หมายความว่า "look on the next page" และ คำว่า "see above" หมายถึง "look at something written before"
